Palestine solidarity movements and those using their platforms to call for Palestinian liberation can fall into the trope of dehumanising Palestinians by depicting them as resilient heroes; capable of bravely withstanding and enduring Israel’s genocide and the occupation itself.
This discourse of Herculean Palestinian endurance and exceptionalism must be challenged. This panel seeks to engage Palestinians across sectors to provide their insights on the dangers of this one-dimensional characterisation; how this narrative has been developed; and for a predominantly Muslim audience at GPU, explore why there is such little evolution in this perception within our communities.
